Music is a vital ministry of Missouri United Methodist Church. Serendipity Choir (2 years through 1st Grade) and Faith Expressions (2nd through 5th Grades) have rehearsals and activities as a part of Wednesday Night Live from 6-7:30 p.m. Choir is also offered during the 8:50 a.m. service on Sundays.
Discovery Days Preschool is a faith-based program of Missouri UMC for toddlers through Pre-K. It operates 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the school year. For more information on space availability and cost, please contact Courtney Gaunt, director, at 573-875-4886.
In 2014, Missouri United Methodist Church received a Young Clergy Initiative grant from The United Methodist Church to lead youth and young adults to recognize, cultivate, and develop gifts and skills for future ministry, especially professional and ordained ministry. The Exploration Project provides many ways for students to explore their gifts and skills for ministry. One exciting part of The Project is the “Jr. Pastor of the Month” Program at Missouri United Methodist Church.
Any child or youth, 4th-12th grade, can apply by downloading an application and arranging an interview through Hank Jenkins (6-12th grades) or Nancy Cooper (4th-5th grades). At the interview, the child or youth explores his or her interest in learning more about church ministry and, if developmentally ready for this experience, selects three pastoral activities to be accomplished in an identified month of ministry as “Jr. Pastor.” The Jr. Pastor and parent(s) prepare a participation covenant with their placement director outlining the expectations and responsibilities of the experience.
Throughout the Jr. Pastor's month of service, the Jr. Pastor sits with the Senior Pastor in weekly worship, practices and provides worship leadership, is identified to the congregation, and participates in the three pastoral activities which were identified in the interview. Each week during the month of service, the youth meets with a lay mentor who is safe sanctuary certified by MUMC to help them reflect on their experience and explore a “Make a Difference” ministry idea.
After a child or youth has served as a Jr. Pastor, he or she is eligible for applying to undertake a “Make a Difference” ministry project which is a focused mission or service project, serving a specific target community. A possible grant of $200.00 may be awarded to the student for funding the age-appropriate startup and leadership of this ministry project.
The Family Art Fair is a fun way to celebrate Easter! Families come together to create a sidewalk masterpiece with sidewalk chalk. Children also receive Easter bags filled with goodies.
VBS (Vacation Bible School)
Each July we gather together for a fun and exciting week of learning, music, games and crafts. Children ages 4 through those entering Grade 7 are invited to participate. Volunteers’ children younger than age 4 have their own special time. Youth (Grade 8 and up) are invited to help as youth volunteers.
Our Missouri Annual Conference is committed to offering opportunities for children to experience God in a variety of ways. Camps grow faith and build relationships and let children experiece worship and make new friends.
In October we join with the downtown District for a fun-filled Halloween event. Join us at the church for games, prizes and Trunk-or-Treat.
Families enjoy making crafts to celebrate the season of Advent as we look forward to Christmas and the birth of Christ anew. Come spend some time as a family making crafts geared to all ages and abilities and then stroll through the District to enjoy the Living Windows displays.
