In 1960 Leonard Bernstein already worried that modern compositions wouldn't excite concert goers as they once did. In “classical” times, audiences were excited to hear a new Beethoven symphony or Puccini opera; but, today, many audiences cringe at the simple mention of the word “modern.” Trying to change that concept is a constant battle for orchestra directors. In this concert, 9spo will combine well-known pieces from masters of the past with a bouquet of brand-new short pieces especially plucked for 9spo.
