Jamie Younkin is highly regarded for her sensuous vocals, nuanced trumpet performances and has been compared to Diana Krall and Chet Baker. She is the vice president and founding member of the United States foremost jazz competition, The American Jazz Pianist Competition.

A Gospel Christmas Celebration Dec. 14, 2019 7:00pm
The Missouri United Methodist Choirs present a Christmas concert of spiritual and gospel songs featuring the very best arrangements of your favorite Christmas classics as well as some stirring new works from the great composers of today. This concert will showcase the Missouri United Methodist Chancel Choir and Agape Singers in a manner new to our Concert Series. You will be moved toward the manger with every word as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ through music that touches the soul.

Holiday Brass Concert Dec. 2, 2019 7:00pm
Ring in the holiday season with the sounds of brass! Join the Mizzou Brass, the University of Missouri Brass Choir, and brass studio ensembles for their annual celebration of the season. Hear seasonal favorites and some new flavors that will inspire and put everyone in the holiday spirit. A portion of the proceeds will provide funding for brass scholarships at the University of Missouri.

An Evening with Ralph Vaughn Williams Nov. 2, 2019 7:00pm
The Columbia Civic Orchestra and Columbia Chorale come together to present a program of music by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The orchestra opens the concert with two contrasting works, Vaughan Williams’ jovial English Folk Song Suite and gorgeous Fantasia on Themes of Thomas Tallis. Then the Chorale joins the Orchestra for a performance of Vaughan Williams’ cantata Dona Nobis Pacem, which combines secular texts of Walt Whitman along with religious passages while pleading “on earth peace, goodwill to men.”

Maestro Kirk Trevor has been leading internationally acclaimed conducting workshops around the world for years. Again, this year he will be teaching in Columbia some of the world’s most up and coming young conductors. The culmination of this week-long intense session will be a full concert with the conductor workshop participants leading the Missouri Symphony. You will be amazed by the skill and talent of these young maestros. The audience is invited to a reception with the conductors after the concert.

Join us as we inaugurate a Dixieland Band as part of the MUMC Concert Series. Originating in New Orleans, this quintessential American art form found its way to St Louis, where it still vibrates as part of Missouri’s musical heritage. Welcome the legendary Jerry Hoover and his Firehouse Band in a musical event that you will never forget!

Organist David Cason will highlight this unique program that will, through pictures, music, and the spoken word, unveil the secrets of the great Aeolian-Skinner Organ. With 4 manuals (keyboards), 44 stops, 51 ranks, and 3297 pipes it is one of the largest pipe organs in the Midwest.

Come with us as we take a tour through the inside of the organ chamber, the console, and the pedals in an extravaganza that will demonstrate the incredible capabilities of this exceptional instrument.

Lessons and Carols was first formalized by Edward White Benson, later the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1880. In 1918 it was adapted by King’s College, Cambridge, UK and has been performed there each year since on Christmas Eve. Dr. Tim Coday, MUMC director of music ministries, will mirror this festival of nine lessons and carols into an Advent evening worth remembering.

Leading us into Advent, this annual concert has brought regional acclaim for its warmth and essence, featuring the brass faculty and students from the University of Missouri School of Music. Hear seasonal favorites and some new flavors that will inspire and put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
