Wesley Festival - Sunday, Oct. 16 - 4pm (Adults $10/Students $5)

The 2016-17 MUMC Concert Series starts with a festival in memory of and in tribute to Dr. Gene Ridenhour, an esteemed Columbia surgeon who felt moved through his faith to continually help others.  Gene came to love Wesley hymns as a youngster as they helped his family endure the great depression.  This first of its kind festival will include choirs from churches throughout Columbia, each choir performing on their own,  then combining into one large choir to perform the world premiere of a Wesley inspired work composed by MU professor emeritus Dr. John Cheetham.

Holiday Brass Concert - Monday, Nov. 28 - 7pm - FREE

Brass reigns supreme as we kick off the holiday season with an evening of good cheer and entertainment.  Come and enjoy classic holiday music performed by individuals, small groups and combined ensembles of extremely talented brass virtuosos from throughout central Missouri. This annual event will also include a world premiere of another new work by Dr. John Cheetham.

Christmas Concert - The Many Moods of Christmas and The Messiah - Saturday, Dec. 10 - 7pm (Adults $10/Students $5)

This all new collaboration with the Columbia Civic Orchestra and the MUMC Concert series will present some of the finest and best known music of the Christmas season. The program will open with the orchestra and then a community choir will perform “The Many Moods of Christmas”, a finely arranged set of traditional Christmas melodies. Then with professional soloists, the MUMC choirs will perform “The Messiah”, one of Handel’s most beloved works. Using a small orchestra and a completely new orchestra score, this performance will recreate the character and quality of original performances of this masterpiece.

Organ Concert by John Walker - Saturday, Feb. 4 - 7pm (Adults $10/Students $5)

John Walker is "widely recognized for his flawless technique and execution as well as his controlled and passionate playing," said a Duke University concert announcement.  A Kansas City Star review of Walker's performance there said, "Anyone harboring notions of organ recitals as dull, churchy affairs obviously hasn't heard John Walker...A high-profile musical personality was never in doubt, and there was virtuosity to burn."  This evening highlighting the Ernest M. Skinner organ at MUMC with the brilliance of John Walker will be an unforgettable event.

Four Other Brothers - Saturday, April 8 - 7pm (Adults $10/Students $5)

An exciting evening of American jazz from Louis and Bix to Miles and Clifford will have everyone swaying.  This ensemble consisting of four jazz trumpet professors from four different Illinois university campuses, accompanied by a three-piece rhythm section, will demonstrate the profound influence that trumpet players have had on the development of both jazz and pop styles.  This is a night for everyone to swing together.

MOSS Conservatory Orchestras - Thursday, May 18 - 7pm (Adults $10/Students $5)

This concert concludes our season with some of the best maturing youth musicians in the area.  Maestro Kirk Trevor brings members of his conservatory youth ensembles to the sanctuary to perform a variety of works that will thrill both young and old.  One can only be captivated by these young musicians who one day will be performing in concert halls around the world.
