Director of Children’s & Family Ministries
Reports To:
The Director of Children’s & Family Ministries will report to the NextGen Coordinator and Associate Pastor.
Objective:
The Director of Children’s & Family Ministries is responsible for the leadership and development of MUMC’s children’s (birth through 5th grade) ministries program. This will include planning, teaching and leading in a way that will effectively grow both the ministry and the faith foundations of those involved.
As Director of Family Ministries, you will partner with families to support, create, develop and implement programming relevant to the lives of the families of MUMC.

Primary Expectations:
Leadership
Create a dynamic, meaningful, and safe (physically and emotionally) atmosphere for spiritual growth among all children at Missouri United Methodist Church
Establish meaningful personal relationships with the children of the congregation and community by investing in their lives
Recruit, inspire, train, empower and equip ministry volunteers to support the vision of the children’s ministry, as well as coordinate ministry volunteer scheduling
Lead and guide the Children’s Ministry Team for planning, collaborating, calendaring, and accountability in your role
Remain visible to the congregation through active participation in worship services
Develop engaging family ministries (MYFAM) to support family in faith, fellowship and life. Be willing to explore and experiment with new possibilities
Planning
Strategically develop formation events including but not limited to Sunday School, Children’s Church, Nursery, Summer Camp and/or VBS, and other special events including Halloweenie, Living Windows, and more
Create and maintain children’s ministry long-term goals as well as individual goals for separate age groups
Redevelop parent ministry groups and Wednesday Night Programming
Planning, development, and execution of the Christmas Eve Children’s and Family Service in collaboration with the Pastors and other necessary staff
Communication
Prepare written communications and updates regarding Children’s Ministry for parents and church family (i.e. weekly children’s emails, weekly church newsletter, occasional mail, texts, website, Facebook etc.)
Create an effective informational network to communicate schedules and responsibilities to ministry volunteers
Develop a parent’s Sunday School opportunity with the collaboration of Children’s Ministry Team and Director of Engagement
Collaborate and interface with both our Music Department as well as the Preschool Program that is active within the church
Attendance and Hours
Ability to be present on Sunday mornings throughout the year (up to 4 Sundays off a year)
Work four work days a week (Monday through Friday), with the core working hours being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10am-4pm
Expectation to maintain and stick to a sabbath on Mondays or Fridays
Finance
Prepare and administer budget within the established guidelines and in compliance with the Missouri united Methodist Church policies and procedures
Purchase supplies needed to equip the ministry
Maintain the budget and turn in necessary documentation when needed per policy.
Safety
Oversee the safety of youth while in programming at church, as well as the safety of the children’s ministry space
Ensure proper communication of background checks (Safe Gatherings) for all children ministry volunteers prior to their participation in accordance with the Missouri United Methodist Church’s Safe Gatherings policies
Assist the church office with maintaining necessary records
Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to ensure proper care and maintenance of facilities
Qualifications:
Children’s Ministry Experience Preferred or Similar Work Experience with Children
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience to ensure thorough knowledge and ability to perform the duties of the position
A desire to serve God through effective ministry leadership and a commitment to the Christian faith with a desire to deepen and mature your own relationship with the Triune God
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills
Proven ability to work effectively with children, parents, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers
Understanding of Methodism, worship, and theology, or the willingness to learn
Adept at analyzing situations and identifying priorities while maintaining a calm demeanor
Demonstrated leadership a must; desire to engage and lead our youngest and most vulnerable in a way that is accepting and encouraging
Hours: This is a full-time benefits-eligible position, subject to the personnel policies of the church for non-clergy employees. Position may require periods of overtime. Any offer of employment is contingent upon candidate becoming Safe Gatherings-certified, as required by Missouri United Methodist Church’s
