The First Ignite Worship Service

The first Ignite Worship Service of the fall has come to pass, and it was such a joy to see. It’s been a long summer, filled with months of planning, coordinating, and prayer. We’ve worked hard to breathe life into a new evening service that will reach the masses of college students here in Columbia, and this past Sunday we invited the rest of the Church to join us in this endeavor.

The entire look of the service is different from what we had last year. We’re bringing church to the students, worshiping in a space they are familiar with. Meeting in the coffee shop at 7pm, we’re attempting to make the service work for their schedule. Worship is student led by students from multiple campuses, and messages are crafted to be relevant to the lives of those we hope to reach.

Last Sunday, we invited members of other services to come worship with us in our new space. We want to always connect the life of our service with the rest of the church, and by welcoming our members into the space, we could all invest spiritually in the year ahead. It also provided a great opportunity for us to work out the flaws in our set-up, which we are so grateful for. We had around 15 members attend physically, with countless more in prayer with us from afar. We worshiped and prayed in the space. Afterward, the group walked to the Quad and back in prayer for Ignite and the ministry that will develop this year. It was a beautiful symbol of commitment from MUMC to the students that will soon fill the walls.

As we look forward to this upcoming Sunday, our first full service, we invite you to join us. Join us in presence, in prayer, and in invitation. Please be in prayer for the students that attend, or that will. Join us and grab a cup of coffee with a new face. Help build these relationships alongside us. And finally, invite those young people in your life to our service. Help us spread the word! Ignite worship is unique in this town, and we have a special opportunity to reach the masses. We can’t do that without your help.

Thank you to all who have joined us on this journey in the last few weeks. Your support and aid has made our excitement grow for what God has in store this year.
