Music
Thanks to the support of church leadership and congregation, MUMC has a strong musical tradition that continues to grow! There are many opportunities for musicians of all ages and experience. Below is an outline of what we do in MUMC’s music ministry!
Chancel Choir
The MUMC Chancel Choir provides music for the Cathedral Service at 11:00 a.m. on a weekly basis. The ensemble meets on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 10:15 a.m. in CLC 101. The Chancel Choir is a tight-knit and welcoming community of singers who continue to strive for musical excellence in service of God and the congregation. Whether you have been singing for decades or have only sung in the car, you are welcome to join us!
City Singers
Formerly known as the Agape Choir, the City Singers provide music for The City service weekly at 9:30 a.m. The Singers meet on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in CLC 101 and Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). Reflecting the mission of The City, the Singers focus on an eclectic selection of repertoire, ranging from familiar hymn tunes to contemporary (and sometimes secular) pop songs. If you are looking for a musical experience in a contemporary setting, the City Singers is for you!
City Band
The City Band serves the needs of the 9:30 a.m. City modern worship service at MUMC. We tend to shoot for a mix of hymns, MUMC-relevant chart-toppers, independent worship music and well-known worship music per the direction of MUMC pastors. It's a fun band to be a part of as band members have a lot of input for how the song is played, and we give as much time as we can to working out the music since we have members of the band from all walks of musical life—from those with musical degrees to great sight singers to those who rock at learning by ear. We’re always looking for new folks in the band to play all the time or just some of the time. If you’ve got a song to sing or play, come play with us or play a special tune solo. We practice on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the MPR. Let us know if you have a special request, too. For more information about City Band, contact Becca Griffin at becca@moumc.org.
Wesleyan Ringers
The Wesleyan Ringers are an adult handbell ensemble directed by Kaye Miller. The Wesleyan Ringers perform in worship at least once each semester. No previous experience is required.
Special Music
If you sing or play an instrument and would like to perform in church, we have a number of ways you can contribute: special music solos, performing as an accompanying musician, playing the piano for services, singing/playing for outreach programs (such as nursing homes and jail ministry) and more! We are particularly looking to provide special music for the Chapel Service at 8:00 a.m. on Sundays.
