SMALL GROUPS
Dinner Club— MUMC Dinner Club is made up of groups of six to eight people choosing to either dine in or dine out. Groups are formed twice a year, September (fall semester) and February (spring semester).
First Monday Book Club—Meets at 4:00 p.m. in the Parlor on the first Monday of each month (Sept-May)—with occasional exceptions for holidays.
Knitting & Crocheting Group—Meets weekly providing a time for knitting, crocheting and conversation. All levels of experience are welcome!
Quilting Group—Meets weekly and spends time hand quilting. Money raised goes to UMW missions.
UWF MUMC Book Club—Meets every other month for book discussion at Lenoir Woods.
MINISTRIES TO GET INVOLVED WITH:
The ministry programs below are frequently looking for volunteers to help lead/facilitate/chaperone/drive/provide food, and to fill many other roles. If you have an interest, they would love to have you as a part of their teams.

MISSION-MINDED GROUPS & EVENTS
Angel Tree—Ministry to children of prisoners mid- to late-November. Congregation members participate in all aspects of the program from purchasing and wrapping of gifts to delivery.
Crop Walk—This is an ecumenical walk to "stamp out hunger" and to provide a means of becoming self-sustaining for persons around the world.
Heifer International— Works with communities around the world to overcome hunger and poverty and care for the earth. Local volunteers meet at MUMC, host the annual Advent Alternate Gift Table, lead the congregation in funding a Gift Ark ($5,000) every other year, and offer presentations and resources for mid-Missouri.
Loaves & Fishes—Takes place the second Saturday of the month from 4:30 p.m. to about 7:00 p.m. Prepares and serves meal at Wilkes Blvd UMC.
Mobility Worldwide—(Formerly PET Project) Volunteers work at the Mel and Barbara West Cart Center (4825 E Meyer Industrial Drive, Columbia 65201; (573) 886-7877). They build hand-powered carts and ship them around the world to assist leg handicapped persons.
Saturday Morning Café—Serves breakfast to the homeless on Saturdays in April and June at MUMC.
The Wardrobe—MUMC is responsible for staffing The Wardrobe on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our duties at The Wardrobe are staffing the check out counter, and hanging and stocking clothing.
GROUPS FOCUSED ON SERVING OTHERS
Caring Ministries Team— Meets with pastor monthly to review the needs of members and prayer requests, Assists with hosting funeral receptions.
Library— Keeps inventory of books and organizes collection.
Office Volunteers— Serve a shift each week helping in the church office.
Prayer Shawl Ministry— Members create shawls, lap robes, baby blankets and other knitted/crocheted items that provide a message of love and caring to recipients. The group meets five times a year to bless items they have prepared.
Men of MUMC— Men’s group meets on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The Evening Advocates group meets on Wednesday evenings.
UWF (United Women in Faith)— MUMC has 10 active UWF circles, focusing on spiritual growth, education and missions.
SERVICE CENTERED AROUND WORSHIP
Acolytes— Welcoming youth from 6th-12th graders to serve in the 11:00 a.m. service and on Christmas Eve.
Arts In Worship Initiative — Melding the creative with the message of the Creator.
Audio Visual Team— Sign up as a beginner or pro and assist in the running of the A/V equipment at one of the Sunday services.
Communion Set Up— Arrive early on Communion Sundays to prepare the elements for service.
Communion Servers— Assist in serving Communion.
Drivers—Bus/Van— Drive members to/from church on Sundays.
Hospitality Team— Welcome and direct people at various entrances on their way to worship.
Ushers— Serve at one of the Sunday services helping people find their way to seats at each service.
GROUPS FOR THOSE WITH A SONG IN THEIR HEART
Chancel Choir— An adult mixed ensemble that provides traditional selections at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday. (Weekly rehearsals)
Praise Band— Performs at the 9:30 a.m. service every Sunday. (Weekly rehearsals)
Wesleyan Ringers - Adult handbell ensemble. Performing at select services throughout the year. No experience required, but members do read music.
GROUPS INSPIRED TO LEARN
Adult Bible Study— Sundays at 9:30 a.m. We open with prayer, then read scripture and commentary followed by discussing the passage in its historical context, spiritual significance and how it applies to our lives as disciples of Christ. Our men have a weekly coffee and our women a monthly luncheon. We also do mission work within the church and the community.
Friday Heretics— Fridays at 1:00 p.m. at MUMC. A group of progressive Christians seeking to create a space where it's okay to ask questions about God, faith, scripture and the church without fear of being labeled a heretic. The group is currently participating in The Wired Word, a weekly look at how faith informs (or should inform) our responses to current events.
Koinonia Groups— Every Thursday except for the first Thursday of the month, when members volunteer at the Food Bank. Christian study groups using the Bible and related books to discuss and share ideas. Currently, there are two groups that meet at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Lectio Divina— Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Contemplative time of listening for God through a brief scripture passage and discussion.
Lenoir Group— Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. in the Lenoir Woods Dogwood Theater. The group is a community of mostly Methodists who live at Lenoir Woods, but welcomes all who wish to join for study, discussion and reflection.
Seekers— Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Room 302. This is an adult progressive Sunday School class that primarily reads and discusses contemporary religious texts to help us be Christians who are compassionate, honorable, inclusive, open-minded and just servants.
City Sunday School— Sundays at 11 AM.
